Preparing A Water Damage RV Insurance Claim

RV By LakeMany areas across Southeast Texas are facing major flooding and water damage in the wake of heavy thunderstorms earlier this week. Many people know that floods can spell disaster for homes, but what if your RV suffers water damage? In most cases, you'll need professional assistance — either for a deep clean or a total replacement of the vehicle. Luckily, your RV insurance policy can come in handy in this situation.

A comprehensive RV insurance policy is likely to cover various forms of water damage that were out of your control, many of which are a result of weather. This may include (but is not limited to):
  • Mechanical failures
  • Carpeting
  • Furniture and bedding
  • Galley appliances
  • Awnings
  • Pumping system

When it comes to repairing water damage, the key is to move quickly. If left alone, mold and mildew can begin to develop, which can negatively affect the health of you and your family. Take pictures of the damages as proof, including the water's point of entry. As soon as possible, call your independent insurance agent or RV insurance provider to begin the claims process.

A representative will ask questions about the incident and an adjuster may be sent out to assess the vehicle. You may also be asked for the photos you took of the damage. Your insurer will tell you when you're able to go ahead and have repairs done. In many cases, the insurer may even recommend mechanics and other professionals in your area that can help with the repairs.

Be sure to save all receipts and paperwork associated with RV repairs so your insurer knows the sum for which you'll need to be reimbursed (according to the details of your policy).

Not sure about the details of your RV insurance policy? We'll be happy to review you coverage and explain how and when it can benefit you. Call Miller Insurance Agency at (409) 899-9531 for more information on Beaumont TX RV insurance.

i have Progressive RV full coverage on a 2006 Coachman Freelander 2890 QB. 2 months ago I apparently put holes in my roof when attempting to part under a tree branches at a Cracker Barrel. I inspected the roof and did not see any damage. Prior to this the RV had been covered from Fall 2019 until our vacation in June 2020. Just a week ago 1 Sep 2020 we were cleaning it for another trip and we notice the bunk over the cab was soaked. Further, we pulled off a panel under the cab over window and it was full of mold and water. I initially reported it to our insurance company without mentioning the 2 month prior tree branch contact. The progressive Rep said they probably would not not cover it as they do not cover water damage, but added that we needed to get an objective review of the damage from an RV service center. A local reputable RV service looked at it and said the water was from a damaged roof which would need to be replaced along with the water damaged front of the RV removing the window. It was then that I recalled the contact with the branches. I contacted our insurance rep with this new info and am waiting for his review of my new info along with the dealerships repair estimate. If the dealerships estimate was accepted it would more than likely total our RV, but at least we would get the cash. I not accepted we stuck with an RV well need to repair out of pocket. If we ever get another RV we going to get extended water damage coverage. If they disapprove our claim I am going to request an independent appraisal. Any advice?
