Well we dodged a bullet here in East Texas with Hurricane Isaac! But not our neighbors to the East. As I write this, Isaac is hovering over New Orleans and Misssissippi pouring inch after inch of rain. It will be quite a cleanup. Hopefully most folks there learned from Katrina that it is best to have both wind AND flood coverage, so that there is no room for doubt about what caused what.
In a perfect situation, you would be able to buy one policy to cover both risks. But unfortunately for us all, flood insurance is federal, and wind coverage in the coastal areas are done by the state. Maybe one day they will get together on this important insurance.
Speaking of Mississippi above, reminds me of a Weather Channel broadcast in the Hurricane Isaac coverage where they showed a map with Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana marked. Where Mississippi is, they had written "land mass" .Jeeez. So now when I talk to my family from there, I ask them "How are things in "Land Mass"?
Anyway, prayers to our neighbors over there in Louisiana, Alabama, and Land Mass!
