You would think that since we went through Hurricanes Rita and Ike here in East Texas that we would all have our disaster emergency kit kept up to date, right? Well I have to confess that I am just now getting mine together again. When Rita hit us in 2005, I was sort of prepared. I had plenty of bottled water, food, a generator, window unit air conditioner. But I was not ready for being without electricity for 21 days! And that was how long my home was without power. Do you remember the 2-3 hour long lines to get gas in Lumberton? I wasn't going to wait that long, so instead I drove East to Lafayette and filled up my cans. Still took a couple of hours, but I was at least moving!
Anyway, in 2008, when Ike rolled ashore, I found myself much more prepared. I had enough fuel to power my generator for weeks, plenty of food, and even a good supply of beer, for after a day of hard work cleaning up tree limbs! But now, it has been 7 years since Old Ike. I am like most people, getting lazy in my preparedness. I resolve to be prepared for the possibility of a hurricane, or other disaster. So here is a website that has some ideas for disaster preparedness- http://rdcrss.org/1dcfyFA
